since I am frustrated at several things and a couple of them shouldn't be public.
I'll rant about one of them that is public and that has probably been bothering
some others too. Look, I love to help out and I am usually good at helping. I
also am known as pretty good at giving other solutions and fixing situations.
This however, is confusing, lacks consistency, full of false alarms and is both
broken and not broken! I want to help, but I sort of know how to proceed and
do not. I also don't know if I am currently that encouraged at the moment. I am
known for efficiency, but at the moment motivation for it escapes me. Maybe
you know what I am talking about? this site is what I am talking about and it's
current administration. My irritation and frustration has honestly more to do
with the administrators and owners then the community leaders. I am also
more frustrated at, I believe his name is, Scott than anthony. I am not like Elsa
and not going to pillage this site and not going to burn the owners at stake.
There is talk of it's ending. It's clear it's not just a roomer. fine! perfectly fine!
So do I build an alternative or not? is this talk or is it real? I can do it it's easy
enough I am good enough at campaigning that people will come. I also want to
be courteous and not take all the traffic away from this site. Its a replacement
not it's competition! when do I do this so I don't take all of it's credit and traffic
away? do I have to build it now or six months from now? Is this site just going
to remain up for a few more years? Is this mere frustration or is it reality and
legitimate stuff that is going to happen? Should I spend my time doing
something else? If I craft rules, built the boards become efficient, will it be
frankly a waste of my time?
If you're not aware this news has been happening since I gather the end of
September. the first doomsday was new years. The site was down and
convinced a few people that it was dead. The second was January 29th of 2018,
it was monday! Then it was reported that today the end of the month was it's
last day and also february first. which is today. Are you trying to install fear and
confuse your membership? are you trying to drive them away? do I hurry up
and build my board and gather my friends or not? I am bothered and confused
by this. I am frankly a bit unsettled and frustrated.
I want to construct my site but if this site will remain there is no point. If I build
it I'll have to moderate it and people may be compelled to use mine over the
zone. I stress! I DO NOT WANT TO BE DISCOURTEOUS AND DRIVE AWAY
TRAFFIC! MY PROJECT IS NOT AIMED AT COMPETITION, STILLING THE ZONE'S
SPOTLIGHT, RUN IT OUT OF BUSINESS, MAKE IT SHUT DOWN BECAUSE NO
ONE USES IT, ETC... ETC... ETC... I want the community to be able to hold
together and live on and whoever wants a text based site can have one. I am a
very willing participant of this, but not when it's not going to die. I don't like
being confused. I don't like unrealistic and impractical expectations. I do not like
this entire ordeal with false alarms. I am happy to start work on the boards,
yes, I can do it, and be efficient and successful at it. I also want to be
CONSIDERATE of the zone, it's membership and it's staff. This is what is driving
me nuts. I don't have time to keep watch of it's death or news. I also have a life
but I can find enough time to moderate or to build a team to moderate and to
do my part of the work.
I think there is a clear, sensible, and pragmatic solution here. Firstly, make up
your mind. Secondly, give us clear and realistic expectations, and a sense of
security. Thirdly and finally when you can give us an answer. Speaking out of
turn, deciding and then undeciding is not going to help anyone, much less
yourself. Let's try to be efficient shall we?
does it matter? you build the site, make it better and more attractive than zone. you will have people join. it shouldn't matter if the zone is going down or staying up. if you want to build an alternative community, or the continuem of the zone, do it. But perhaps now, you get some of the feelings such as frustration and disappointment from the CLs, and even from the admins themselves.
Post 2 is right.
It might also be the wake up call this place needs.
If everyone does end up flocking to your site, then it'll be because your site is
actually being maintained.
As for this place, it'll die eventually.
I wonder how many people will stick around till the very end?
The zone launched around this time back in 2003 if memory serves me correctly.
I joined towards the end of 2004.
Back then we had some good times, sadly, everything has its end, and this place has
surpassed other attempts of social networks for the visually impaired, even though it
was meant for everyone.

I need it sometimes. I have had this ripping apart effect for a while because I
try to be extremely considerate and conscientious and this does not help me.
The site has been left largely unbuilt due to this reason. You point out some
good points though Cool turk. I guess not being a jerk is pretty important to
me, and respect even to people I may not have the best opinion of such as the
admins on here is utmost and an ought to. I see what you're saying. I'll
probably do it and try not to feel so judgmental towards myself. heh! I tend to
do that a lot more of me than others. much harder on myself.
Just pay attention to stats on here there is no mania and this place is almost
reminiscent of a graveyard. it does look sad.
I just wish I could help it..... but I guess you can't help when no help is
wanted..... either..... I feel so, just..... don't know how to describe it.
bleh now I have to get over myself. anyway. I guess it wasn't a lack of trying, I
even gave them a CL application.

I'll be here to the end. This site has opened my world, and I am not trying for humor. I'm on FB now, which I refused for years.

Let it go. Build your site. if it's what people are looking for, they will come. if the sigte somehow stays as is, people will or won't leave it. It's up to them. People come and go, and life and circumstance shows that many of them are going, independent of the impending status of this site.
Rachel, the only way you'd be a jerk is if you were actively poaching people. i.e., this site stayed up and kept on bumping along, and you kept showing up here just to extoll the various virtues of your own site or the shortcomings of this one, trying to steal its members away to your own side. If you avoid that - and I'd really advise that you do avoid such - then I wouldn't worry too much about being a jerk.
To be clear, this doesn't mean you can't mention it. Just don't be too heavy-handed. Set your site up, get it rolling, make a note somewhere that there is now an alternative site to visit if people want, and hope that word of mouth and the quality of your own site is enough.
